DESCRIPTION

For our half day tour, in the morning we travel to Royal Palace to see and take pictures of the Chan Chhaya Pavilion and everything around the Royal Palace.  Next, we continue to the Riverfront which overlooks the scenery at the riverside. Then, we take a trip to the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge, or Chroy Changvar Bridge, which was constructed in 1966.  Soon after, we will travel along the Tonle Sap River toward Wat Sampov Treyleak.  At this location, we have the perfect scenic view of the Royal Palace from across the river. After that, we travel back to Wat Phnom, the only hill in town.  The first pagoda on this site was erected in 1373 to house four statues discovered by a woman named Penh and deposited here by the waters of the Mekong.  Next, we will travel to the Central Market, which was constructed in the years 1935-1937. Around the main buildings are stalls offering Krama (checked scarves), stationery, household items, cloth for sarongs, flowers and second hand clothes, usually from Europe and the U.S.  Next, we will continue to the Olympic Stadium, which was designed by architect Vann Molyvann and built in 1964.  Then, we travel around Tuol Sleng and continue to the Russian Market (Tuol Tompoung Market), a treasure trove for tourists.  Particular items worth seeking out include CDs, fabrics, jewelry, carved handicrafts and ceramics.  This market offers the same souvenirs as Siem Reap, if you didn't have a chance to pick any up at Angkor Wat. When we leave the Russian Market, we go on to the Independence Monument to take photos and count the dragon heads together.  How many dragon heads are on Vimean Ekareach?  It was built in 1958 for Sybilles Cambodian Independence Day after they won back their independence from the French protectorate on November 9, 1953. Our last place to visit is the National Museum, near the Royal Palace.  It displays various statues and elements of Khmer art history, such as: Prehistory, Ceramics, Bronze, Pre Angkor Period, Angkor Period, and Post Angkor Period.  In front of the National Museum is Vel Men.  We always celebrate Bonn Visak Bochea every year, but this year we celebrate it at the Siem Reap province.  So, our tour ends here at the National Museum.
